Are y'all looking for a fun and tangible manner to teach your children about Christ'south resurrection? There are lots of fun crafts and Easter projects out at that place.

My personal favorite is the Empty Tomb Cake.

It was March of 2010 when I first shared this Empty Tomb Cake with the interwebs. Since so information technology'south been a yearly tradition as part of our family's Easter celebrations.

Thank you to the novelty and creativity of historically themed Playmobil, my kids and I have been able to create diorama-style cakes for a number of occasions. Decorating cakes with Playmobil is super fun!

After several years of placing only the Roman guards on the cake, a few years ago nosotros took a new plough. My youngest daughter, so 6, asked where the women were.

You see, we'd been reading through the gospels and watching the Bible TV program, but I wasn't certain she was listening. When I told her we were going to make the cake, she said nosotros needed the women.

Stopped me in my tracks, I tell ya. She was listening, indeed.

Yep, yeah, we did need the women.

Here's last year's block: carrot block with cream cheese frosting (my favorite cake!), chopped almonds for the rocks, ane Roman guard and the Marys. My carrot block recipe is larger than a block mix yields, thus the larger pan.

Conspicuously the Empty Tomb cake is free course, allowing you to mix and friction match your frostings, toppings, and characters. You lot could very easily add Joanna, Peter, John, the affections, or even the resurrected Jesus, depending on the toys you take on hand.

  • Playmobil Roman soldiers or aboriginal men and women, plastic trees and shrubs

How to make an Empty Tomb cake:

The process for making this block is pretty elementary. Divide your cake batter into a pocket-sized oven-proof bowl and a square or rectangular baking pan. Y'all'll need to pay close attention to the baking times as they will vary with odd shaped pans. Only check every 5 to ten minutes to make sure you don't burn your cakes.

Cool the cakes completely on wire racks before you add the frosting and decor.

If you prefer, you tin can omit the soldiers or add the women who went to the tomb the next 24-hour interval. Or mix and match your people. It actually all depends on what toys you have on hand.
